After Pacific Puddle Jump visit Matakana region of New Zealand

Robertson Boats extends a warm welcome to those who’ve made the Pacific Puddle Jump.

Crossing the largest body of water in the world takes its toll on your sailboat or yacht and earns you a much needed respite from the demands of non-stop cruising. Located up the magical Mahurangi River, in the Matakana Wine Region, New Zealand’s equivalent to Napa Valley, Robertson Boats has cared for numerous overseas and Pacific Puddle Jump yachts while its owners sip delicious wines and explore the surrounding countryside.

Whether you continue to live aboard at our work dock or on our hardstand, or stay just a short walk along the scenic Mahurangi River at a nearby bed and breakfast in Warkworth, you can combine overseeing or performing the repairs and tweaks to your sailboat while also enjoying the best of land-based New Zealand.

Alternatively, if it’s time for a trip home to visit loved ones, Robertson can also care for your sailboat while you’re away, either actively working on it or just making sure it’s safe. Many cruisers are opting for this option to extend the amount of time they have available cruising the extensive and exotic South Pacific from a New Zealand base.  After all, the timing of the Pacific Puddle Jump doesn’t allow for enough cruising time in the South Pacific.

To help keep the dream a dream and not turn into a problem filled time, Robertson Boats is the founding sponsor of the emerging South Seas Lifeline, a service to help you document your sailboat’s specifications and systems on your laptop which is then automatically backed up to cloud storage on so that we can source the exact replacement part you need while cruising and get it to your upcoming destination.

We also host an annual several day gathering for those who have made the Pacific Puddle Jump.  It’s held over Auckland’s late January Anniversary day celebration which coincides with the Mahurangi Classic Yacht Regatta held off Scott’s Landing at the mouth of the Mahurangi. (Jan 26, 2015 and Feb 1, 2016)

Come anchor with fellow members of Pacific Puddle Jump  and meet some of New Zealand’s most venerable sailors while watching the largest fleet of classic yachts racing with their sailors enjoying great times together. Last minute crew are often needed so there’s the chance to race one of these classics.

We encourage you to arrive by the Thursday before the Anniversary Day weekend and relax around your anchorage so you’re well rested for the fun filled weekend. We host a Friday night BBQ ashore where you’ll mingle with the inner circle yachties of the classic regatta. Saturday is race day followed by all the regattas festivities including a Big Band dance.

The Monday after we pick you up at the Scott’s Landing dock to host a tour of nearby Warkworth pointing our the grocery, wine, laundry and other services. We follow this with a picnic at the nearby concrete works swimming hole and finally a tour of our three generation boat yard. You’ll come to find that the Mahurangi is a convenient and low cost gateway to cruising nearby Kawau Island and the entire Haruraki Gulf.
